A personal note from the founder:
Five years ago, my son married on top of Solitude Mountain in Utah. He and his wife then settled in Salt Lake City and recently bought a home in the charming Marmalade neighborhood. Over the years, my husband and I have often visited, enjoying hiking, biking, and the peaceful landscape of the state. Our favorite moments, however, are watching the stunning sunsets from our son’s porch.
We have grown to love Salt Lake City and Utah. Beyond the breathtaking natural beauty, it is the people who inspire us. We have been warmly welcomed by our daughter-in-law’s family and the local community. Each trip has been a chance to explore shops, dine at local places, and discover what lies around each corner. I soon realized it was time to highlight these remarkable small businesses.
When I approached business owners, I was met with positive responses. Hearing their stories has been fascinating. I learned not only about their personal journeys but also about Salt Lake City’s history. A common theme among the over seventy businesses I have visited so far is the strong sense of community. Many owners have traveled extensively, both in the U.S. and abroad. What always brought them back to Utah, however, was their connection to family, community, and the majestic state they call home. Every business owner emphasized that they wouldn’t be there without the love and support of their neighborhood and beyond. In return, these owners consistently prioritize making their customers happy.
Motivated by my experiences, I have decided to publish a blog where I can continue sharing these heartfelt stories, much like those I gathered on Manhattan Sideways. I am not a food, art, or fashion critic. I speak from the heart - relaying the experiences that business owners share with me, simply aiming to advocate for these enterprises in a positive, yet honest light.
For those who live in SLC or have spent time here, and for others who are considering a visit, I hope to encourage you to follow my blog and Instagram posts as I delve into some of these stories. Each one will offer you a deeper understanding of the owner’s background and their driving passion for their business. Perhaps one day, you will have the chance to visit any number of Salt Lake City’s hidden gems - the shops, eateries, and bars that contribute to the unique charm of this captivating city.
