“We really pride ourselves on doing honest work at a good price. We’re never going to do anything that isn’t right for the customer.” For over two decades, The Quad & Cycle Shop has been a trusted name in Salt Lake City, offering a wide range of motorcycles, ATVs, and accessories while building a loyal customer base.
Founded in 2003 by Scott and Christy Pirlette, the shop began as a passion project - one that Scott initially started with a friend simply because they thought it would be “cool” to open a motorcycle shop. At the time, Scott was a plumber, and Christy worked in mortgage and finance, but together, they took a leap into the power sports industry. From the beginning, Christy was an equal partner, helping shape the business alongside Scott.
The couple first opened their doors in Ogden, primarily selling small children’s quads and dirt bikes. A few years later, they expanded with a second location in Salt Lake City. When their original business partner decided to leave, Scott and Christy bought him out, becoming the sole owners of The Quad & Cycle Shop. In 2015, they closed the Ogden location and focused entirely on their Salt Lake store, where they have continued to grow and evolve to meet the needs of their diverse customer base.
Although they started with a focus on children’s vehicles, the shop gradually expanded into scooters, go-karts, and, eventually, servicing and repairing adult motorcycles and ATVs. Today, the shop is known for carrying one of the largest inventories of used motorcycles in the area. They do not sell new adult motorcycles because becoming a dealer for major brands requires a large upfront inventory commitment - something their shop simply does not have space for. Instead, they focus on high-quality used bikes, ensuring riders have access to well-maintained, reliable options.
The only new vehicles they do sell are a Chinese brand of children’s quads and dirt bikes, which provide an affordable entry point for young riders. “A lot of parents don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on their kid’s first bike when they’re just going to grow out of it,” Scottie explained. “This gives families a good option to get their kids into the sport without breaking the bank.”
Beyond bikes and ATVs, The Quad & Cycle Shop is stocked with everything a rider might need, from helmets, gloves, and goggles, to boots and tires. They also carry a vast selection of mechanical parts, making it a go-to resource for repairs and maintenance.
Scottie Redmond, now the general manager, has been with the shop for fourteen years. His journey to The Quad & Cycle Shop began with a suggestion from his brother, who was the store’s first employee. “I was studying automotive in college when my brother told me they needed a mechanic,” Scottie recalled. “I figured I’d give it a shot.” It turned out to be more than just a temporary job; Scottie grew into the role, working as a technician for years before stepping into management. “It’s an awesome place to work. Everybody gets along, we have fun together, and I’ve met a lot of great people because of it.”
One of the unique aspects of the shop is that none of its employees currently ride. “At some point, we all did,” Scottie admitted. “Even Scott and Christy’s kids grew up riding - but they never really took to it. They didn’t like camping or being out on the trails, so they just moved on from it.” Despite this, their knowledge and passion for the industry remain at the core of the business.
While there are plenty of shops in the valley that sell motorcycles and ATVs, customers return here for more than just their extensive inventory. “It’s hard to find honesty in the service industry,” Scottie reflected. “That’s what sets us apart.” The Pirlettes have built a reputation for treating customers like family - just as they do their employees. “They do this out of the goodness of their hearts. They take care of the people here like family. I wouldn’t be here this long if they didn’t.”
